Mr. Sanjay - Aircel
It was for the first time when the CBS’ students faced a volley of questions from the guest lecturer even before the students got introduced to him. The initial confusion and anxiety of students got converted into excitement with each passing moments when the real world tricky questions started teasing their young minds. This took a shape of an unannounced competition where the class divided into groups of 5 were asked to give presentation on the “challenges which Airtel would face with its acquisition of Zen’s assets in South Africa”. It included a lot brainstorming exercise wherein the participants started thinking as real managers covering all the possible dimensions of the acquisition listing their viewpoints as pros and cons. This livened up the whole surrounding. It was only then that the guest gave his introduction as Mr. Sanjay, Assistant Manager HR, Aircel. In the flow of his lecture he was not just able to clear the doubts regarding HR, but also made students realise how clear they were for their future targets, which was indeed a compliment for them. Towards the end of his lecture he changed students’ view of “Why HR?” to “Why only HR?”

Mr. Rohit Modh - Grameen Financial Services
Did you know that the world’s seven richest men can wipe out the global poverty. Some such facts were highlighted by Mr. Rohit Modh from Grameen financial Services Pvt. Ltd, Bangalluru. Mr Modh has completed his B.E. from MITM, Indore and MBA from IIFM Bhopal. He started his lecture by giving a brief introduction about the man behind micro finance Mohd. Yunus a global prize winner for peace, Head of Rural Economic Program and a professor at Chitagaon university. He told an unsaid and uncovered reason behind the idea of microfinance, which very few people know- Mohd. Yunus was amazed by the honesty and self respect of the people of Bangladesh, he was touched when the money he offered as a help was returned with interest by them. This was the major push which forced him to think about them and do something significant to improve their living standard. Besides this Mr. Modh threw light on the current models on which the micro finance firms works and resolved the queries raised by the students. The query session made the lecture more interactive and interesting, and at the end the students were shocked when Mr. Modh ended the session by disclosing the interest rates on which these firms offer funds to the people which was 28% - 40%, this again initiated a discussion, which was justified when he told that the money lenders offer the same at interest rate varying between 40 to 100% . Such off hand revelations about Microfinance left the students in an awe about the operations and quest to explore deeper in this field.
Holi Celebration
Holi is one festival where people have diverse likings and dislikings of being drenched in colourful spirits. This year’s Holi celebration at CBS was an unforgettable experience. The quiet, serene campus came alive with a riot of colours, splashes of water, sweetness of mithais and thandai, and the madness of CBS students.
The day started with informal visits to the professors’ homes by a group of students. The Profs were more than happy to welcome the students and douse them with colours and water. Mithais and thandai flowed as everyone enjoyed to the fullest.
The Hungama then shifted to the dorms and the student Mess area, as the lazy bones were woken up to the sound of dhol and tempo shouts.
The Co-curricular committee of CBS, left no stone unturned to make sure that ample arrangements were made to provide all the necessary colours, water and space to suit the “holi”gans. As the crowd swayed to the music of ‘Rang Barse’, a large tub of coloured water awaited the initially reluctant ones, who were baptized into the Holi mood after being forcefully splashed into it. A water jet was arranged to drench not just everyone in the centre stage of this massive party but also those who believed that they could escape the colour-onslaught by quietly enjoying the view from a safe distance.
The day concluded with tired but thoroughly contented students returning to their dorms, with most making lunch and movie plans. Others resorted to a well deserved sleep.
Now that’s what a life at “Core” all about.
Notice Board Decoration Competition
With hot summers peeping in the 3Cs- the co-curricular committee of Core Business School came up with the unique competition that brought out the creativity of students and resulted in taking students out of the hibernated mode of winters.
“The Notice Board Decoration Competition” between the committees made post graduation students feel like school kids again. The brain-storming sessions of doing something different, crafting and cutting, collecting information and enthusiasm of decorating the notice boards could be seen in the students as well as the faculty in-charge.
The last minute preparations, panic and confusion added spice to the whole event where the students had to request for some grace period for competition to begin. This was because, one major component of judgement was disclosed few minutes before the commencement of competition- the judges decided to give priority to the most active committee since their inception. The nervousness among the students increased when they were asked to answer what their committee has been doing and what are their plans ahead.
The two groups that were able to impress the judges- Dr. Kaul and Mr. Sunil Chaturvedi were Neev- the part of HR Committee which stood 1st and WE the Think Tanks that is Editorial Committee, bagging the 2nd position. Neev’s notice board was decorated with the hand made colourful cartoons which were attractive yet informative. They proved that their initiative of helping the underprivileged people was not just a move but a movement. This competition served a dual purpose of appreciating the active committees on one hand and also giving a push to the laggards which was given in the form of advices and suggestions by Dr. Kaul.
