29TH August- Picnic at Tafri

The students had a nice break when they went on a picnic to Tafri (picnic spot). The day was overcast with dark clouds and there was not a single person who did not get wet.

It was an experience of an entirely different kind where everyone was enjoying with the new friends made during the orientation period.

Continuing with the corporate interaction during the orientation week, the students got a chance to interact with Mr. Sandeep Attre – Director, Edgemakers. His one statement most remembered by everyone goes as follows: “If you are not humble you will fumble and life will be jumble”. He equated sincerity with seriousness + smile. He also believed that a casual outlook in life leads to causalities.

The ABC of professionalism according to him is “ANALYSE BEFORE CONCLUDING”. Another aspect he highlighted was never to attend giving temporary solutions because by giving temporary solutions you make it stay forever. The role of a manager is to find methodicity in chaos. Mr. Attre also highlighted that leadership is not about solving problems but avoiding them to emerge.

He also believed that professionalism is about taking yourself very lightly and your work very seriously.  He said that the word ASK can be expanded into 3 words : ATTIDUDE + SKILL + KNOWLEDGE.  The students were mesmerized with each and every topic which Mr. Attre discussed.

AUG 27 2009

Mr Mahesh Thampi - Chief Executive Officer – Airtel- Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh who has been instrumental in making “EXPRESS YOURSELF” parts of our life was amongst the Core Business School’s students on the 27th of August 2009. The students’ encashed on the opportunity to interact with this esteemed guest during the orientation program which was a weeklong interactive session with various personalities from the corporate and business world. Mr. Thampi emphasised on acquiring skills and competencies so that the students are well equipped to face the challenges of the ever-changing business environment.

While describing the journey of Airtel he highlighted a very apt principle which he called it as n=1 principle. This principle involved thinking of connecting to every new customer as if it was interacting with the first customer. This principle holds true for any business decision made at Airtel and also students could incorporate it in their day to day lives. He emphasised that students’ should start this new innings in their educational life as if it was a new beginning and a new platform. They need it to forget all their failures and shortcomings and have the quest to transit from ordinary to extraordinary.  Mr. Thampi  equated the boiling state of water with the lives of individuals. According to him it is easy to reach at 111°F which can be compared to the boiling point of water. In order to reach 112°F and be converted to steam which can power big machines it is important to cross that threshold point. It is thus a matter of crossing over the threshold mark and becoming a personality from a person.

Inauguration - Aug 24 2009

Monday morning 24th august 2009 marked the inauguration of Core Business School. Mr. Parikshit Sethi -  Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director – HerbalDream presided the inaugural session. He is the first generation entrepreneur who shared his journey from being associated with a pharmaceutical company to establishing his own export oriented unit.

The students were made to understand that there is one special quality in each one of them which is unique among 10,000 people around. He also emphasised on realising one’s core competencies and work towards the maximum utilization of those capabilities. Only then a person would be in love with the work he performs.

Another area which interested the students was his ‘abc’ formula of success. According to him the formula of success goes as follows:

S=(a X b X c)G
Where S=success, a = ability, b = behaviour, c = character
G = God, the upper-hand for future

The inauguration session also included the welcome address by Dr. V.S. Gajevelli, Director, Core Business School. He expressed his desire to see Core Business School reaching a platform where it would be at par with the premier business institutes of the world.
